The Archbishop Pius Ncube solidarity coalition was set up in response to the publicity surrounding the alleged sexual relationships of Archbishop Pius Ncube by the Zimbabwean state media namely ZTV1, The Chronicle and The Herald. The publicity outraged residents in Bulawayo covering civic organisations, human rights activists, ordinary residents, political parties and faithbased organisations.
Archbishop Pius Ncube is an outright critic of Zimbabwe's president, Robert Mugabe and his current government. One of the major objectives of the solidarity movement is to continue to recognise and support the democratic values that the Archbishop stands for and recognise him as the 'Voice of the voiceless who has distinguished himself in the struggle for a new and better Zimbabwe, where democracy exists.'
