We shall conquer through Pius Ncube

by Kudazi Kwangwari
The issue of Archbishop Pius Ncube’s alleged sex scandal again like many other cases of this nature, that are concocted by a dictatorial government which has run out of ideas, is political strategy for ZANU PF. The way it’s alleged to have happened leaves a lot to be desired. It is no longer a civil matter that should only be decided in a court of law. That the government through its mouth pieces decided to have a field day breaking many other laws that are provided in the constitution with reckless abandon, violating even children’s rights should communicate to all Zimbabweans that we have a senseless, ruthless and careless government. It should also send a signal to all progressive Zimbabweans that this government’s approach is no longer based on the rule of law but rule by law, that is if any.

ZANU PF has decided to use everything at its disposal as political capital and it is up to us to either allow this to continue or to stand up and say ‘NO’. That ZANU PF can reduce the person of our Bishop to a simple political tool for political mileage, cannot and should not be allowed for anything. We stand with our Bishop not for any other reason apart from the fact that we subscribe to his values and principles of democracy and good government, air treatment of citizens and social inclusion. These values should motivate and inspire us all to stand up against the senseless and barbaric machinations of a government whose leader is now in a state of dementia and gone gaga.

Forget about the legal issues surrounding the allegations. No. It is about an attempt to silence dissenting voices sothat we will all zip our mouths and exercise a lot of self-censorship when expressing ourselves. Archbishop Pius Ncube has been speaking out for the marginalized in Zimbabwe and he should remain the voice of the voiceless.

Lastly, it should be noted that the whole issue comes as a blessing in disguise as it provides a platform for us to fight dictatorship, to fight discrimination and all other forms of injustices. The process of democraticisation of Zimbabwe should gain momentum motivated by this development.

MASIIWA RAGIES GUNDA

I need to thank you guys for coming up with this forum. First, I do not stand here to defend Archbishop Pius Ncube, I stand here to give moral support to him because of the unfair coverage his case has received. Particularly offending to me is how Robert Mugabe wants to redirect people's attention from his misguided and disastrous policies which have literally impoverished 90% of Zimbabweans to what Pius Ncube is believed to have done in his private life. Who is Mugabe to even open his mouth and suggest that he will pray for Ncube? How many people died in Matebeleland under his instruction? How many of them has he prayed for? How many people have been dying in Zimbabwe in mysterious circumstances? How many has he prayed for? How many of us today can feed our kids with three meals a day? How many of us has he prayed for? Why does his prayer become relevant now, on Pius Ncube? If Robert thought, we have forgotten how he got his wife, then Hwande has done well to remind him in case he himself has forgotten. It is possible because in Shona we say: chinokanganwa idemo, muti wakatemwa haukanganwi!
It is shocking how Mugabe is his wisdom or lack of it, thinks that Pius' blemish (if it is there) can atone for his shortcomings that have costed Zimbabweans any piece of dignity, his brutality and unlike the midas touch that some have, the Mugabe touch is such everything turns bitter!
The old man even has the guts to equate himself with God. The ZANU blaspheming has been with us for long, beginning with Tony Gara calling Mugabe the son of God, now Mugabe says Pius is being punished for praying for his death, why? Because Pius dared criticise a zanu god! Pius must never be stopped from his mission of speaking on behalf of the voiceless povo! We want Pius strong again and outspoken, even more than before this mugabe scheme of silencing his critiques. All the others who have gone through this experience have been silenced but I believe Pius is different, he should come back much more stronger! Give Mugabe a rude awakening by speaking for the people.
There are other ways we can support Pius during these trying times, let us speak out on the evil that mugabe is perpetrating against Zimbabweans, so that, for trying to silence one voice, mugabe should get millions of voices in return.
Time has come for us all to speak out. It is mugabe and not Pius who is responsible for the shortages of everything that we call basics, it is his fault that we are afraid of going home early because we have nothing for our children, it is mugabe's madness that we can no longer claim without any guilty feelings, our parenthood because we cannot provide for these children we so love. For how long God, shall we wait for this evil man's death? Pius, you were dead right, mugabe must die for us to be free!
